Rouleau’s curling and skating rink was used for exterior shots in the first season episode “Face Off,” featuring the Dog River River Dogs hockey team, when Lacey’s intervention resulted in an unusual score at the team’s first game of the season. The interior scenes of the hockey game were filmed in a rink in Regina.
The curling rink was a popular location for the cast and crew to eat lunch, so perhaps that was the inspiration for the second season episode “Hurry Hard,” when Dog River had its yearly curling bonspiel, the Clavet Cup. In that episode, Karen was tasked with guarding the Clavet Cup, but unfortunately Lacey put it to use at The Ruby. That episode was filmed in 2004. Since Corner Gas was filmed in the summer, there was no ice in the rink, so interior filming for the curling scenes were shot in Regina, although exterior scenes were filmed here at Rouleau’s curling rink.
But production did film inside the building! The concession booth and kitchen area inside of the rink were used for town hall scenes in the first season. Both the curling rink and the seniors centre stood in for the Dog River Town Hall throughout the series.
